“In 1990 I worked as a back county guide for Colorado Heli ski and Chicago Ridge Snow Cat tours. After a few seasons of that I took a job with Ski Patrol at Copper Mt. in Colorado. I also coached the Copper Mt. Ski Team on weekend as a free skiing coach. In 1996 I broke my femur while skiing. This put a dampener on my skiing since I was supposed to work at Mt. Hutt in New Zeland that summer. After a summer of hard rehab I tried to go back to the snow the next winter with no luck. So I figured without being able to ski, why be cold. So I moved to the Florida Keys.
While in the Keys I worked as a Divemaster for that winter. After a winter of that I was ready to hit the slopes again. So I headed back to Colorado After the winter of skiing hard and flying fixed four line foils in the gusty mountain wind. I realized I may not be able to ski full time any more due to my injuries. So I decided to move to a warmer climate, North Florida. While in Florida I started to get more into Traction kites with landboards & buggies. Then moved into the water with foils and two line Wipikas. Due to the gear being hard to find and hard to get I started Ocean Extreme Sports. At this point it was just a home based business. In 1999 we decided to step it up with the popularity of the sport growing. So we sold everything (house, car, motorcycle, boat, etc.) and moved into a crappy little apartment and rented a small retail shop in a strip mall. The rest is History.” - Daryl Drown (Owner)
